Catherine Duclos

Catherine Duclos completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Montreal, where she studied the sleep and circadian rhythms of brain-injured patients, hospitalized at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal. Her research elucidated how sleep-wake disturbances originate and evolve in the acute phase of a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury, and how such disturbances are associated with the recovery of consciousness and cognitive functions. For her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Duclos is aiming to identify neural markers of "covert consciousness" in unresponsive patients using high-density EEG and graph theoretical analysis. Dr. Duclos is also applying these techniques to improve the prognosis of ICU patients in coma and disorders of consciousness, and to elucidate the dynamics of brain networks during emergence from profound, anesthetic-induced unconsciousness.
