Dr. Elaine Gilfoyle, MD, MMEd, FRCPC is PICU division head at SickKids in Toronto.
Dr. Gilfoyle is a practicing paediatric intensive care physician at SickKids and Associate Scientist at SickKids Research Institute. She received her M.D. from the University of Western Ontario, General Paediatrics Residency at the University of Western Ontario, Paediatric Critical Care Medicine Residency at McGill University and MMEd at the University of Dundee. Her research program focuses on team performance during paediatric resuscitation. She studies teams in both the simulation laboratory and during real events. Her research program is entitled Teams4Kids and involves assessing adherence to resuscitation guidelines, CPR quality and teamwork (communication, etc.) during resuscitation of children. Dr Gilfoyle’s work involves both simulation-based education/research as well as observational studies in the real-world settings. She aims to better understand sources of error during resuscitation in order to better educate team members to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
