She is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She received her pediatric training at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, and completed fellowships in Neonatology as well as Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Toronto.
She completed her Masters of Health Research Methodology at McMaster University in 2008. Dr. Choong has been a member of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group since 2000, and a member of the CCCTG Executive since 2011. She has been awarded grants from CIHR, PSI, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Sick Kids foundation as the principal investigator of several trials focused on the management of septic shock, and maintenance intravenous fluids in pediatrics.
Her current programme of research is focused on acute rehabilitation in critically ill children: EXercise and Early Rehabilitation in Critically Ill children, a Systematic Evaluation (the EXERCISE Programme of Research). Dr. Choong is the Pediatric Director of the Canadian Critical Care Society. She sits on the American College of Critical Care Medicine and Society of Critical Care Medicine Guidelines Committee for the Hemodynamic Support in Pediatric and Neonatal Septic Shock, and the Canadian Association of Pediatric Health Centres (CAPHC) National Pediatric Practice Guideline Collaborative for Sepsis.
