Dr. Tasnim Sinuff is a Critical Care physician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Clinician Scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Sinuff obtained her PhD in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, with a focus on knowledge translation (KT) in the ICU. Dr. Sinuff is the Co-Chair of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group and Canadian Critical Care Society Knowledge Translation and Guidelines Committees.
Dr. Sinuff’s primary research interest is in KT, including (1) developing evidence-based guidelines, (2) assessing the quality, quantity and impact of KT interventions and (3) using mixed methods to understand behaviour change. She has Co-Chaired the Canadian noninvasive ventilation for acute respiratory failure guidelines; has been involved in the development of the ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) guidelines and their update; and is involved in the development of the Canadian hypothermia for cardiac arrest guidelines. Dr. Sinuff has co-led the multicenter, CIHR-funded study (ABATE VAP), which used a multifaceted intervention to implement VAP guidelines.
Dr. Sinuff’s current focus is the use of audit and feedback (A&F) to improve the implementation of best practices. She has recently led a CIHR-funded knowledge synthesis of KT translation interventions in the ICU. Dr. Sinuff has just completed a peer-review funded (PSI and University of Toronto grants) mixed methods study to further understand the use of A&F to implement best practices in the ICU. She will use these results to study optimized intervention involving A&F to improve the implementation of best practices.
